Here’s How To Spend Valentine’s Day As A Single Person (And Actually Enjoy It)

We know your first instinct may be to wallow in self-pity and eat chocolate while watching people do couple stuff on Valentine’s Day so if you are stuck in a rut, here are 5 other things you can do to ensure that you actually enjoy Valentine’s Day this year.

Comment “It’s A Small World” On Couple Posts

For those of us that live for chaos and violence, as soon as you see someone post their loved one, slide into their DMs and type it’s a very small world and then watch the drama unfold. Be informed that this option is not for the faint of heart.

Pamper Yourself

When was the last time you bought yourself something just to make yourself feel good? This valentine falling on Ashawo Szn should be a reminder for you to put yourself first. Use the money that would have gone into buying a gift for your partner to pamper yourself. Get your nails done. Go get a pedicure. Order yourself cupcakes or pizza. Just treat yourself.

Have A Movie Marathon

If you enjoy movies as well, consider yourself lucky!! Get rid of all the old rom-com that remind you that you’re still single. You can watch classic new Sit-Coms like the Upshaws, Modern Family, and many more. And since misery loves company, do not hesitate to invite your other single pals around, pop some popcorn, relax and watch your favorite movies. It could become a tradition for y’all. Avoid the cinema because it will be trooping with couples. You can sit back home and still enjoy an episode of your favorite television show.

Read Up

For the students who have nothing to do since lecturers are on strike, start reading ahead. If you’re not interested in reading a textbook, find an interesting novel and lose yourself in it. If you can not find love, you might as well live it through the eyes of an author. Reading for pleasure is hard to fit into a busy schedule, but it can be so relaxing—and it can take your mind off of the roses and teddy bears and candy hearts invading your day. Even if it’s just for the 20 minutes you would be spending scrolling through Instagram, it’ll make you feel better.

Do Something Nice For Someone

Give to others. Do you know that friend that has been struggling for a while? Either mentally or physically? Do something nice for them. A box of cupcakes costs less than 100 Ghana cedis. Appreciate the people that have always been there for you. Let them know they are still on your mind. Valentine’s Day is not only to show love to your romantic partners. You can even donate to street kids. Just put a smile on another person’s face.

You have the rest of your life to find love—use the time you have now to learn about yourself, do new things, grow and become independent, and make incredible friends. Recognizing all of the reasons you enjoy flying solo can help you realize that you have nothing to complain about.

Make this Valentine’s Day a memorable one, no matter how you choose to celebrate. When you realize how amazing it is to be single, you’ll be elated to be part of this family.
