How To Make Your Own Lube At Home

Lubricant are used in the bedroom (or anywhere if you are into freaky, freaky) to reduce friction and enhance feelings of pleasure. Generally, there are two types of lubricants. There are water based lubricants and oil based lubricants.

Water-based lubes are best for practicing safe sex and for when using a condom. However, oil based lubes can double as sensual oils, they can be used for massage as a part of foreplay which can lead to sexual stimulation.

As much as it is better to go in for the store bought lube for safety sake, you can also try making lubes at home to save time, money and just for the sake of knowing how to. How cool is it to know how to make lubes? Here is how:

Homemade water-based lube:


  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 3 teaspoons of corn flour

Whisk until it disolves. Put it in a pan and bring it to a boil. Turn it off and whisk until there’s no more lumps. Do a test on the wrist. 

Be careful with the consistency as it can turn a bit gluey. 

Warning: this could create a lot of friction if the consistency is too thick.

Homemade oil-based lube:


  • 1 part aloe vera gel
  • 1 part flax seed oil
  • 5 drops of peppermint or lavender essential oil

Mix the aloe vera, the lavender/peppermint oil and the flax seed. Let it sit over night and then you can use it.

Warning: Peppermint essence can heighten the sensitivity for some people, but can also feel like chilli powder for others. Also, some oils and oil-based lubes can cause yeast infections.
