5 Heat-proof hairstyles to keep you cool in this season

Accra is getting too hot and the only people that scare us are the people who step out in long sleeves and do not come back home boiling in the heat. Essentially, “who go vex the sun?¨ is the question every Ghanaian needs an answer to in this season.

For women, most of the heat and sweat stems from us having hair around our necks. From the braids to the bone straight wigs and whatnots, having hair stuck to your neck is just plain uncomfortable. With Accra moving hot and December dallying closer and closer, these hairstyles will definitely get the hair off your neck in minutes:

High Bun

You can never go wrong with a chic high bun. There are even variations that could help you switch it up.

Get the look:

Make a high ponytail with your braids that rests at the very top of your head.Spread each braid around the ponytail so that there is a hole in the centre of your ponytail. Gently tousle the ends, turning them under and pinning them around the ponytail’s base. To make a loose bun, wrap loosely and you’re good to go.

High ponytail with swoop.

Good for classing things up and good for covering a big forehead. Two birds, one style.

Leave out about 6-8 braids in the front and middle part of your head and tie your hair up in a ponytail. After, line up the left out braids, making sure they cover one part of your forehead and wrap it around your ponytail and secure it with a hair tie or bobby pin

Scarfed up bun.

You might have noticed a pattern of bun styles but the ultimate aim is to keep the braids of your neck so let’s get it.

Get the look:

Tie up your hair in a ponytail preferably at the top of your head. Fold the scarf and wrap both sides of it around the base of your ponytail. Tuck it back under the wrap to secure it.

Low ponytail.

Moving away from the buns and the high ponytails, let’s go low.

Get the look:

Not complicated. Just gather your hair so that it sits right above the back of your neck and tie it with a band. Take out 3-4 braids and wrap them around the band to conceal it. And slay!

Braided braids.

Might require more skill but why not?

Gather your hair to your back and do a three-strand braid. Secure the end with a band to make sure it doesn’t unravel.

Remember ladies, the key is to stay fly and cool this December.
