Growing up, the ability to read was something all of us had to learn to acquire. In our classrooms, while some were able to read well, some of us also struggled to grasp it.
Back in the day, teachers would mock you, your friends would tease you and you would be known as the least clever person in the class.
As a child, that is a traumatic experience, however, while some are able to gain the ability to read, others find creative ways to hide it when we start growing up.
Today, we know that we some of us were not as lazy as they were described as, however, they were probably suffering from dyslexia. The inability to recognize that such condition exists and starting a course of treatment did a lot of harm to a lot of young back then and even some young adults today.
Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words (decoding). Also called reading disability, dyslexia affects areas of the brain that process language.
Most people suffering from this are undiagnosed, however, thanks to Dyslexia Ghana you can get diagnosed for free.
While this month is a breast cancer awareness month, it is also Dyslexia Awareness Month and as such, Dyslexia Ghana is offering free screening for people.
You have to call the numbers in the tweet below to book an appointment for the free screening.
Dyslexia is a condition and you can learn how to treat it but first, you must know whether you have it or not.
