Boobs are great no matter their size or shape but they can be painful sometimes. Boob pain can happen for different reasons but it is rarely a symptom of breast cancer. There are several reasons why perfectly healthy breasts may start to hurt.
1. Your hormones
If your boobs become sore three to five days prior to the beginning of your menstrual period and stop hurting after it starts, you have your hormones to blame. The rise in estrogen and progesterone right before your period cause your breasts to swell and can lead to tenderness.
2. Your bra
A bra that is too small, too tight, too big, too old, or too stretched out may not provide the support you need. When your breasts jostle around all day, they can easily get sore. You may also feel sore in your back, neck, and shoulders.
Medications that are linked to an increase in breast pain include: drugs that affect the reproductive hormones like oral contraceptives, some treatments for mental health conditions and some cardiovascular treatments.
Push-ups especially will leave you sore around your pectoral muscles which sit right under your boobs. Luckily this soreness doesn’t take too long to go. It can be treated with pain reliever, as well as applying heat or ice to the muscles.
5. Breast cancer
It’s unusual for breast cancer to cause pain, but not impossible. Inflammatory breast cancer often causes pain but it’s rare. Inflammatory breast cancer may cause the breast to become: Red or discolored, Swollen or heavy and Painful.
