Angel Arhin: 11-Year-Old UCC Basic School Pupil Crowned African Champion During 2021 International Spelling Bee

Angel Kwame Ankamah Arhin, a primary 6 pupil of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Basic School, represented Ghana at the 2021 International Spelling Bee competition in Dubai.

The 11-year-old came third in the world and was adjudged as the best in Africa.

The final of the 2021 Intercontinental Spelling Bee competition was held on September 24 at the Best Western Plus Hotel Deira Creek in Dubai. Its maiden edition took place in October 2018 in Dubai.

The Intercontinental Spelling Bee competition is an integrated self-inspired language enrichment program with the aim to make English a speaker’s own language through a holistic approach. This competition seeks to make school kids smart, competitive, confident, improve their cognitive skills, and gain the ability to speak publically.

The Competition is organized by the Mind Guiders Management Consultancy together with African partners EDUPRO CONCEPTS.

The aim of the competition is to give contestants more exposure and opportunity to get a feel of the international stage, and also promote affable relationships between children of different backgrounds and cultures.
