When you compare your first-year fashion to when you were in level 400, you would notice a huge huge change! Before entering the University, everyone sort of wants to reinvent themselves because of the new environment they find themselves in and they usually do so with the way they present themselves which is fashion. The truth we all come to accept is that we are who we are and the University environment does not really change us. We tend to better our style and pick and leave others. We definitely hop onto trends and basically have fun with fashion.
In all of this, there’s the need to have certain fashion staples in your closet since you will be able to count on them whenever, wherever.
1. Formal Outfits
They’re necessary for those days where you have to do presentations and you want to make a good impression. It doesn’t hurt to have at least 3 or 4 different formal outfits in your closets as they’ll come in handy.
As a student, you always need to be on the lookout for pieces that are basic and comfortable, yet versatile. T-shirts are one of those fashion staples that will save you any day, anytime. They pair well with almost everything and you can get them in different colours.
All-day, every day. You can never go wrong with these. Currently, there are several styles you can get them in; skinny, slim, boot cut, mom, boyfriend, tattered and the likes. Jeans can be dressed up into official wear and dressed down into something casual. They can also be transformed from a day look into a night look.
We know we’ve mentioned official wear already but blazers deserve their own point. Blazers have the ability to make you look like you are not there to play. They make you look serious even if you’re just wearing them on a T-shirt and jeans. There are different options you can get them in especially in African print for that smart-casual look.
These are especially for those days where you just don’t feel like looking through your wardrobe to pair up clothes. You should have a number of flair and bodycon dresses. If you can throw in a couple of shirt dresses in there too. Try to add a number of clothes that don’t need to be ironed also in there for late mornings where you don’t have time to iron.
6. Long-sleeve shirts
Perfect for both guys and girls. If you’re going for a smart-casual or semi-formal look, long-sleeved shirts and jeans are great!
7. Heels and Dress shoes
For those nights where you absolutely need to dress up, these shoes are a must-have!
8. Sneakers and sandals
These are great for your day to day activities and movements. They’re perfect for lectures and for hanging out with friends.
Especially, denim jackets for the cold weather. Apart from them serving their purpose of protecting you from the cold, they are fashionable and will make you feel like the peng tin you are.
10. Basic tops
You can have them in plain, basic colours or choose prints. These tops can be paired with any jeans of your choice and they are easy to style. You can simply wear a jacket on top of the outfit to complete the look.
