Hashtags have found their place on every social media network. Even for the people who use ‘hashtag’ ironically when they’re speaking, there’s usually no denying that using hashtags when you post will make the post do better; bigger reach, more likes and more comments. Here’s how to use hashtags on Tik Tok and get your videos on the For You page (FYP).
How Does The For You Page Work?
First of all, let’s look at how the For You page works. According to Tik Tok, “On TikTok, the For You feed reflects preferences unique to each user. The system recommends content by ranking videos based on a combination of factors – starting from interests you express as a new user and adjusting for things you indicate you’re not interested in, too – to form your personalized For You feed.”
That means that your activity; the videos you like, comment on or mark as interesting determine what shows up on your For You page. That being said, there are some ways that you can use hashtags on Tik Tok to make your videos more likely to be picked up by the algorithm.
- Use #fyp and #ForYou, but don’t only rely on them. Somewhere along the line people started using these hashtags to get their content on the For You page. Although Tik Tok hasn’t officially said whether or not this works, it can’t hurt to add the hashtags to a post you want to trend.
- Take part in hashtag challenges whenever there’s one trending
- Use trending hashtags in your niche (if you post dance videos, find the hashtags that dancers are using and put the popular ones under your posts)
- Don’t over do it. Insead of putting all the hashtags in the world underneath your post, choose the ones that are the most relevant to you.
