The long vac is right around the corner and right now, that’s exciting. However, after you’ve been home for a few days (or maybe even a week or two) and you’re being sent up and down, or stuck for hours in bed scrolling through your phone, boredom starts to set in. And that’s generally what you want to avoid. Here are some things you can do during the long vac instead of being home scared.
Get An Internship
If you can get one, then an internship is the best way to spend your long vacation. Not only is there a possibility of you getting an allowance, but you also get important experience and make connections that can help you land a job after school. You can find an internship by talking to people you know and through job boards like JobTube Ghana.
Learn A Language
We all have that one language that we’ve always wanted to learn. And why not do that during your long vacation. Start taking those French or Spanish lessons and you’ll know more than a fair share of phrases when school starts. Duolingo is a great app to learn if you’re having trouble figuring out where to start.
Volunteer work also looks really good on your CV and it’s not as hard to find as you might think. Just look for NGOs online that are involved in projects that you’re interested in. Some churches will also have opportunities for you to volunteer.
Take An Online Course
Access to the internet has made it easier than ever to pick up skills online. Here are some skills you can pick up on the internet, and how to go about it. It’s not as hard as you’ve told yourself, just click here to get started.
Start A Business
Instagram and WhatsApp have made it really easy for people to start businesses these days. All you have to do is figure out what you’re selling and the internet gives you access to a market. If you’re having trouble finding a business idea, here’s some inspiration:
Clear Your Email Inbox
Let’s face it, it’s easy to go months without decluttering your inbox because it feels like a lot of work (which it can be). Your long vac is the perfect time to unsubscribe from those unwanted lists and delete/read all that unread mail. A decluttered inbox is definitely a must-have during your national service and after.
Talk To Seniors/Adults About Career Options
Finally, you can start finding out the different career paths the people in your life took and take the pieces of advice they have for you. Most of us leave school without knowing what to expect and this gives you an idea and allows you to prepare.
