Though he has been in the modelling space for just five years, Leopold Kwao has worked hard to earn the tag “multiple award-winning model” to his name.
Inspired by the love of seeing people express inaudible feelings through outfits and accessories, Leopold has been modelling since 2016 with Passion Exhibit Modelling Agency.
He has, so far, won eight awards; and two of those were presented to him in August 2021, in the space of fourteen days.
Leopold was adjudged the ‘International Male Model of the Year’ at the 2021 Africa Men’s Fashion Awards on August 7; and the ‘Creative Model of the Year’ at the 2021 Africa Creatives Award Festival on August 21.
“Winning two awards on the 7th and 21st of August AMFW and Africa Creatives Awards Festival gave me an incremental boost within that I am doing something great worth appreciating in the creative arts industry likewise was a reinforcing reminder that there’s a lot of younger ones I must constantly inspire to achieve greatness,” he told Kuulpeeps.
He further indicated he was very confident of winning both awards because of the strategy he had put in place.
“I expected to win as mostly, a critical SWOT analysis and criteria for winning awards are stated specifically by most organizers of the award. The criteria mostly comprise of a divided percentage of voting, social media publicity and portfolio of the nominated model in question. Per my insight with regards to portfolio and the massive support of #teambelieve, I knew it was a win-win.”
These awards are, however, evident of Leopold’s hard work, talent and versatility as a model.
He has been on runways of local and international fashion shows including Windhoek Fashion Week (Namibia), MASA (Cotê D’Ivoire), GFS (Benin), Men’s Fashion Week (Nigeria), Mercedes Benz African Fashion Festival, Kumasi Fashion Week, Accra Fashion Week, Ghana Menswear Fashion Week, Glitz Africa Fashion Week, Afrak Fashion School Graduation and many others.
He has also collaborated and worked with well-known brands including Bushai Weave Collection, MTN, Niposkin, Yvonne Ex, Nallem Clothing, Kinky Trio Republic, Afrak Fashion School, Abrantie The Gentleman, Jants Collection, UPSA, and award-winning dancehall artist, Stonebwoy
Leopold, however, also sees modelling as an avenue to make an impact and be helpful to others in society. In light of this, he started an annual event dubbed Santa On The Streets (SOTS) in 2017 which is the flagship initiative of his NGO, The Dream Believers Foundation.
The most recent edition of Santa On The Streets was held on December 16, 2020, in the Ashaiman Municipality.
“The charity project [Santa On The Streets] is aimed at creating a community spirit of selflessness and education during the Christmas festivities. Seeing people or less privileged not being left out is joy and gives me a great sense of fulfilment,” he said.
With the experiences he’s had so far and the ones he has yet to have, Leopold Kwao hopes to transform from a model to a brand architect and advocate for models.
“My goal in the near future is to be a staunch brand architect to models with every skill and experience I have acquired, an advocate for models to believe in their dreams and an entrepreneur continually lifting the banners of Ghana high globally.”
