The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) is on strike, your lecturers are no longer coming to class and the sem has seemingly been put on hold. And your guess is as good as mine as to when the strike is finally going to come to an end. Your semester just got longer which means that you’re going to be spending more time in school taking care of yourself.
Here are some hacks that will make sure that you don’t run out of money at any point along the way.
Keep Your Cash Digital
Spending is way easier when all that you have to do is reach into your pocket and lose some money. Ideally, we would all have enough self-control that we could make (and stick to–that’s the important part) sound financial decisions. However, since that’s not always the case, you need to make the habit of keeping your money in your momo wallet/bank account. And then only take out as much disposable income as you need.
Be Careful About Lending
We’re not going to sugarcoat it, lending is a trap. You’re basically faced with two bad choices and you have to pick one. Either be a dick and say no to a friend literally in need. Or give out money that’s going to take so much effort to get back that you’ll probably give up on it. Saying no is uncomfortable, but you should only lend to people you’re confident will pay back.
Go Home For A While
Since lectures are pretty much on a hiatus, it’s not a bad idea to just go home for a while if you live close enough. If you’re home, you can avoid unnecessary costs like the money that you spend on food and other things that eat into your pocket a little bit at a time.
