Gregory Bortey Newman, whom most of us know as King Promise, has over the years cemented his status as one of the amazing musicians Ghana has produced.
Since bursting onto the music scene with his hit song ‘Oh Yeah’, King Promise has gone on to release more hit singles and an album.
He has collaborated with the best in the industry both at home and abroad making him one of the most sought after Ghanaian musicians today.
Some of his associated acts include Sarkodie, Wizkid, R2Bees, Mr Eazi, M.anifest, Kwame Eugene among others.
Despite his success as a Ghanaian highlife and afrobeats singer-songwriter, King Promise continues to ensure that he is always in touch with his fan base.
King Promise, who is currently in the United Kingdom, is working on releasing an album, which his fans have been waiting for for a while.
However, with a heavy schedule of studio time, meeting with producers and arranging features, King Promise still found time to interact with his fans.
With 1.1 million followers on Twitter, King Promise’s Twitter Q&A with his fans was trending on Twitter in no time with the hashtag #5Star.
The session covered a lot of different subjects including people talking about which of his songs they love playing during their make-out sessions.
However, we picked five amazing insights from his chat with his fans.
When he was asked to give a piece of advice to musicians who are still trying to break into the industry, King Promise’s food for thought was concise. He said they needed to have a good blend of God, keep pushing, drive and determination. As someone who was once in their position, he probably knows what he’s talking about.
More than four years since King Promise entered the mainstream music scene, he has never inserted himself in any kind of beef with other musicians. Yes, he has been trolled several times, but that is just fans coming for him, but never has it been between him and another colleague. According to him, he lets the “music do the talking.”
Pals With Hudson Odoi
When Chelsea won the Champions League last season, King Promise posted a shot of him engaged in a video call with Chelsea player, Hudson Odoi. It told everyone that they had some level of friendship. But we never knew how close they were until Hudson Odoi visited Ghana weeks ago.
The football star and the musician were hanging out all the time and even participated in a community football match. King Promise said they connected with each other “sometime back.”
Who Is The GOAT?
It wouldn’t be a Twitter chat session with fans if nobody tried to get King Promise to stir up some controversy about who is the best musician in Ghana. He was asked the question and he chose R2Bees and Sarkodie as his GOAT.
Where Is The Album?
King Promise released the “As Promised” album in 2019. Though he has released singles and hopped on a number of features, his fans are still asking about a new album. He is working on it and according to him, when it finally drops, the fans will “understand why I’m taking my time.”
It would be unfair to him, but can King Promise host a Twitter session every night?
