In a sport that is obsessed with scoring, goalkeepers are often not the stars of the football game.
However, when they become the star of the game, then you know that they have pulled the unthinkable.
Just as Richard Attah, the goalkeeper of Accra Hearts of Oak, did yesterday during the MTN FA Cup Final when his side went up against Ashanti Gold Sporting Club (AshGold).
With 90 minutes of full time and further 30 minutes of extra time played, it came to penalties to decide the winner.
That was when Richard’s heroic efforts were witnessed by all.
Not only did he make a crucial penalty save to make sure Hearts had a chance, but he also had to take his own penalty shoot as he came face to face with the Ashgold goalkeeper, Kofi Mensah.
Richard blasted a powerful shot at Kofi and he failed to catch the ball. However, when it came to his turn, Kofi was not able to hit the target sending the ball flying over the crossbar.
Hearts won the match 8-7 on penalties with Richard’s beautiful save and his masterful shot saving the Phobians and allowing them to win both the FA cup and Premier League cup in the same year for the first time in 21 years.
With Richard stealing the show in the dying minutes of the game, he became the hero of the evening and Twitter has not stopped talking about him since then.
People are have been highlighting his achievement in the year as some noted that he has conceded only one goal this entire FA Cup season.
While people are also calling for Richard to be named as Ghana’s number goalkeeper for the Black Stars, it is possible that he is well on his way to achieving that.
Weeks ago, Richard and 6 of his teammates were called to join the Black Stars.
This is his time!
