When you first come out of school, your biggest focus is on landing a job (as it should be) but when you finally do land a job, your first year can be overwhelming if you don’t know what to expect. Here are some things that you should definitely have in mind if you want to be successful during your first year employed.
Ideas Are Good But Execution Is Better
One thing that all employers appreciate in their employees is when those employees take initiative. Going to your boss with an idea that will make things better in the workplace or yield positive results in terms of business will make you stand out in their eyes. However, if you have the execution to match, you’re well on your way to being successful in your workplace.
In the office, interpersonal relationships are more important than a lot of us realize. Employees who are likeable tend to get promoted faster. Your relationships with the people in your office do matter.
Perfectionism Wastes Time
One of the things that is hard to outgrow after school is perfectionism. When you’re in school, your assignments have to be perfect before you submit them. In the workplace, however, there’s usually a feedback loop that you can tap into. Your assignments don’t need to be perfect, you just need to be able to take feedback.
