The 63rd University of Ghana SRC Week Celebration took place from 11th to 17th July 2021.

The week-long celebration was spearheaded by the Programmes and Project Committee of the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC).

Themed “Blending Education and Entertainment Festival”, the celebration opened with a Gospel Rock Show on Sunday 11th July. This was followed by other events including the 2021 Face of Legon final, an Inter-Hall Football Tournament, and ended with a Cultural and Music Night on Saturday, 17th July.

However, some students of the university were not too excited about the organisation of the SRC week celebration, indicating that the leadership of the SRC did not do enough to get the student body involved in the activities that were held during the week.

Six students shared their thoughts on the 63rd UGSRC week celebration with Kuulpeeps. Here’s what they had to say:

“The turnout was poor, publicity was low and this can be attributed to the fact that the celebration was scheduled to happen in a week packed with assessments and tests. I did not enjoy anything.” — Alfred.

“The advertisement of the program was very poor which made many people ignorant of it. Hence, they didn’t attend.” — Philip

I think the Music Night was really the only part I enjoyed. My friends and I jammed small (lol). But they way I’ve heard about Legon SRC, this was not as loud, maybe because of the Covid. We’ll see next year. Angie.

“What kinda school this bruh. SRC week paa we didn’t see anything. I don’t even know there’s such thing going on mpo. This isn’t funny bruh… University of Ghana paa nie? If I knew this, I would have gone to KNUST. For a fact, I’m not happy in the school at all. I decided to stop but mummy told me to continue.” — Dave

“I didn’t think there would be one. Personally, I think the program advertisement wasn’t encouraging. Some students weren’t even aware of the Celebration.” — Natty.

“The SRC week Celebration was child’s play. We’ve heard a lot about the school but we entered and things seem to be the opposite, sometimes we wish we could swap schools so easily. Our bragging rights are being ripped off as the day goes.” — Caleb
