Africa’s largest music streaming platform, Boomplay, is set to kick off awarding artistes, who have attained notable streaming milestones with their songs, albums and total streams.
Dubbed “The Boomplay Awards” the scheme is driven by music consumption data on the Boomplay app.
It is aimed at promoting a data-oriented campaign on digital music revolution, particular streaming, for the benefit of the music industry.
In a press statement, the Ghana Country Manager of Boomplay, Elizabeth Ntiamoah-Quarshie, stated that streaming is fast becoming the industry’s biggest source of revenue for artists and record labels with digital music revolution reshaping the global music industry.
“Boomplay being the leading and largest digital streaming platform of the African music industry makes us a strategic partner of the African artiste and a crucial player of the industry. Our vision is to build the largest and most reliable music ecosystem for African artists and content creators; to enable them unlock their full potential and benefit from it.”
She added that acknowledging and awarding musicians for milestones they have achieved in streaming is to make a case for streaming to become a vital focus of the music industry in Ghana.
Madam Elizabeth Ntiamoah-Quarshie stated that the scheme is also to highlight the hard work artists are putting into their careers digitally and the contributions of supporting stakeholders including management teams, fans, media and industry players like Boomplay.
She added that “these plaques to be awarded to artistes are based on credible data of Ghanaian music consumers that can afford artistes statistics and analytics to measure their reach, growth and digital value. These can be vital to their music business decisions.”
Following a successful reception of the plaques in 2020, Boomplay plans to tell the streaming success stories of artists receiving the awards this year especially emerging artists such as Gyakie and Black Sherrif.
The biggest winners this year are three of Ghana’s best artists Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Shatta Wale. KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Kofi Kinaata, King Promise, Kwesi Arthur, Joe Mettle, Diana Hamilton, Sonnie Badu and Joyce Blessing closely follow.
Notable new entrants to be awarded this year include Fameye, Gyakie, Black Sherrif and Keche, who have had a steady but massive growth in streams on the Boomplay music app.
