Some students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have today, Friday, July 16, 2021, embarked on a protest on campus to demand the management of the university to take action on the new prices of hostels.
The hostels on and around the KNUST campus have increased their fees ahead of the 2021/2022 academic year. The fees for some of the hostels were shared on social media this week, with the likes of Nana Aba Anamoah and John Dumelo questioning why students are made to pay such amounts for accommodation.

One of the hostels, Ultimate Hostel, also released its price rate for the 2021/2021 academic year, and according to KNUST Live, there’s been a GHC1,000 increment in last year’s prices.

These new hostel prices, however, propelled some of the students to go on a protest to register their displeasure and demand the management of the university to intervene.
Below are videos and photos of the protest:
KNUST Live, however, reports that officers from the Ghana Police Service are on campus escorting the protesters to ensure safety and order.
