How Ghana Police Service’s Twitter Handle Chose “Violence” Today

Officers of the Ghana Police Service

The Ghana Police Service is not enjoying the best of public relations this week.

Following the shooting of the protesters at Ejura days ago, the Ghana Police Service has come under severe scrutiny from Ghanaians who believe the service and the military could have done better in dispersing the crowd rather than shooting and killing some of the protesters.

Yesterday, a woman with the Twitter handle @realnaajudith alleged that the Police shot and killed her father in his own home for processing video evidence of the police killing 4 men months ago.

This allegation gained her a lot of sympathy from Ghanaians who were disgusted that the police would go to such lengths to prevent their misdeed from coming to light.

Hours later, the police responded to her tweet with their own version of events.

According to the police, they had indeed carried out an operation where a man was shot dead after he first shot at the police.

This man, according to the police, was part of a gang of armed robbers from whom they had retrieved several arms and ammunition including about 3,000 AK 47 ammunition.

That was when the police asked Judith whether her father was an armed robber and that she must answer some questions from the police.

The reply from the police has gained traction online with many reacting differently to it.

Happy July, everyone.
