Diana Hamilton was adjudged winner of ‘Artiste of the Year’ award at the 22nd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), held on June 26, 2021, at the Grandh Arena in Accra.
She becomes the first female gospel artiste, and only the second gospel artiste to win the award after Joe Mettle, who won it in 2017.
Diana Hamilton beat off strong competition from Sarkodie, KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Adina and Medikal to win the biggest award of the night.
Winning the most prestigious award of the VGMA in her second year of being nominated in the category shows how much work she puts in to ensure that every song she makes is the best.
In 2020, her hit song titled W’asem, got her nominations in five categories namely: Gospel Song of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year and Artiste of the Year.
Out of the five nominations, she won just one: Gospel Artiste of the Year.
A few months after the 2020 VGMA, she released another hit song titled Adom, which got her nominations in six categories. She was nominated for Best Gospel Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Best Music Video of the Year, Best Gospel Artiste of the Year, Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year
This time around, Diana Hamilton won four awards – Best Gospel Song of the Year, Best Gospel Artiste of the Year, Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year – out of the six she was nominated for.
About Diana Hamilton
Diana Hamilton, born in Kumasi, had her basic education at Morning Star School, Cantonments in Accra. She attended Ghana National College, Cape Coast and proceeded to study and practice Nursing.
She released her debut album in 2007 titled, Ɔsoro bɛkasa and this album enjoyed some good airplay which brought her into the limelight. Her second album Ensi wo yie, released in 2010, gained her prominence in the Ghanaian Gospel Music Industry
Diana is married to Dr. Joseph Hamilton and the couple have a set of twins: Michaela and Michael.
