The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), arguably the biggest award festival in Ghana, has been held annually since 2000 when the first edition went live at the National Theatre.
The award scheme has evolved and experienced transformation over the years.
As we anticipate the 22nd edition of the VGMA, we have put together old photos of hosts, performers and award winners from the early 2000s. Check them out:
Kwami Sefa Kayi hosted the first Ghana Music Awards event in 2000 and went on to host the following seven events from 2001-2007.
Doreen Andoh and Samini took over from Kwami Sefa Kayi and co-hosted the event in 2008.
The Ghana Music Awards in the early 2000s saw electrifying performances from musicians like Lord Kenya, Obrafour, Tic Tac, Ofori Amponsah, Kwaw Kese, Kojo Antwi, Kwabena Kwabena and others.

Ghanaian musicians like Obrafour, VIP, Samini, Kwaw Kese, Ofori Amponsah, Obour, Irene Logan, Efya are among those who won awards at the Ghana Music Awards in the early 2000s.
P-Square and 2Baba are also among African musicians who won the Best African Artiste award in the early 2000s.
