#VGMA22: Enjoy These Projects Nominated For “EP of the Year” Category

VGMA "Ep Of The Year" Category

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards this year added a new category to their list of categories. “EP of the Year”, is a new category to celebrate artist who release Extended play (EP) records. An EP is musical recording that contains more tracks than a single but fewer than an album.

The year in retrospect 2020 saw artistes use the pandemic as a means to keep fans entertained during quarantine.

BLUE – KiDi

On this Ep, Kidi is serving us with tunes from different genres from Afrobeat, Afro-dancehall, Pop, and Punk. Kidi is definitely a versatile artist with his multi-genre Blue Ep.

The Blue EP is a 5-tracked multi-genre masterpiece featured Ghanaian Songstress Adina, with Production credit to top tier producers like Kayso, Richie Mensah, DatBeatGod, MOG, and Novia.

SEED – Gyakie

After breaking into the music scene with her single, ‘Never Like This’ in 2019, talented Ghanaian singer-songwriter, Jackline Acheampong, known by her stage name, Gyakie has released her debut EP, ‘‘SEED”. Revealing herself as the daughter of the Ghanaian Highlife music legend, Nana Acheampong through the cover art for ”SEED”, sets her tone for the EP: a young girl influenced by music from legendary talents in Ghana’s history through her dad and his musical friends.

While that comes off as intriguing, she’s also burdened with the thoughts of conforming to what is expected of her as her father’s ‘seed’ as well as deciding on choosing her own path and maintaining her integrity. The ”SEED” EP is a journey that explores diverse genres as a reflection of Gyakie’s musical quest of finding and staying true to herself while leaving lingering thoughts of what to expect from her in subsequent projects.

DIFFERENT – GuilyBeatz

Grammy-nominated Ghanaian producer GUILTYBEATZ last year released his much-anticipated debut EP, Different.

Having already produced hits for a range of top-shelf African artists (Mr. Eazi, Wizkid) and Beyoncé, GUILTYBEATZ taps into his expanding network of all-star African acts including Mr. Eazi, Joeboy, and Moonchild Sanelly for the eclectic release.

Different is loosely about desire—romantic, sexual, and economic—but most listeners won’t catch everything the cast of vocalists is saying. They’re from three different countries, and perform in at least four languages. Nigerian dreamboat Joeboy stars on “No Love,” sometimes warding off gold-diggers in Yoruba, sometimes skating across the beat with rhythmic punctuations. On “Condom Collector,” South Africa’s Moonchild Sanelly powerfully professes her coital obsession in English. On “My Vibe,” Ghana’s J.Derobie seduces his lover in patois.

MOOD SWINGS – Edem

The prolific Ghanaian renowned rapper, Edem has finally put an end to the long wait. After so much wait from the music fans, the Ghanaian music maker has finally outdoor his much-anticipated body of work to bless his music fans in this second half of the year 2020.

The new piece of studio work in which he dubbed “Mood Swings” houses 6 solid hit banging tracks, which features a list of Ghanaian artists including, Darkovibes, Kelvynboy, and award-winning female vocalist, Efya.

THIS IS NOT THE TAPE, SORRY FOR THE WAIT – Kwesi Arthur

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur gave fans what they have been waiting for, the second installment of ‘This Is Not The Tape , Sorry 4 The Wait’. The studio project houses three songs including the already released Turn On The Light.

The tape makes just one guest slot. Kwesi Arthur tapped Sarkodie for ‘Jehovah‘ , which is one of his long awaited songs.

THE TRUTH – Kofi Jamar

Before his successful hit single “Ekorso” Kofi Jamar released his debut EP titled: ‘Truth’. The six (6) songs EP was released after a heavy success from his recent single “In the City”.

The Hit single “in the city” featured Ice Prince from Nigeria and Khaligraph Jones. These two rappers are Africa’s finest with Khaligraph Jones recently winning the best Rapper Africa at Sound City MVP Awards in Lagos.

Kofi Jamar in talking about his Truth EP, mention that the title is simply he telling his ‘truth’ to the rest of the world.

He explained it as: “this is basically to share my story (the real truth) with the world and also the T.r.u.t.h is broken down into transforming rhythms under thousand hours.

TRUTH – Transforming Rythms Under Thousand Hours has the beautiful songstress, S3fa, as the only feature on the entire project.
