Ahead of the 22nd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), the organisers renamed 18 of the already existing categories.
Two new categories – Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year and EP of the Year – have also been added.
According to to the organisers, these changes and additions were made in order to make the scheme more responsive to the industry.
Below are all the 18 categories that have been renamed:
Previous name: Rapper of the Year
New name: Best Rap Performance
Previous name: New Artiste of the Year
New name: Best New Artiste
Previous name: Male Vocalist of the Year
New name: Best Male Vocal Performance
Previous name: Female Vocalist of the Year
New name: Best Female Vocal Performance
Previous name: Hiplife/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year
New name: Best Hiplife/Hip Hop Artiste
Previous name: Highlife Artiste of the Year
New name: Best Highlife Artiste
Previous name: Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year
New name: Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste
Previous name: Gospel Artiste of the Year
New name: Best Gospel Artiste
Previous name: Hiplife Song of the Year
New name: Best Hiplife Song
Previous name: Highlife Song of the Year
New name: Best Highlife Song
Previous name: Afrobeats/Afropop Song of the Year
New name: Best Afrobeats/Afropop Song
Previous name: Hip hop Song of the Year
