Emmanuel Addakwei, a third-year Business Administration major and a MasterCard Foundation Scholar at Ashesi University, became very popular among his cohorts in the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year due to the groups and teams that he led.

He was mostly appointed by his lecturers to lead the teams, and as a team leader, he was expected to coordinate and ensure that the members attend meetings, and complete and submit their assignments on time.

“I think my dedication to work is what differentiates me from other team leads,” Emmanuel told Kuulpeeps.

The teams he led include Marketing, Leadership, Introduction to Finance and Quantitative Methods. “For Leadership and Quantitative methods I had to play a role of a situational leader for my own good and my team members as well. However, Introduction to Finance and Marketing I was actually selected,” he said.

According to Emmanuel, he was very excited to be selected to lead the groups but there’s more he can do as a team lead. “I still feel I have more work to do because anytime a member decides not to do assigned work, I need to complete that particular work.”

Emmanuel also revealed that he is passionate about giving back to society and is hoping to accomplish two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – No Poverty (SDG 1) and Gender Equality (SDG 5) – in his community.

“My top priority is giving back to the society, especially to assist the less fortunate within my jurisdiction in my community and Ghana as a whole in a manner that will allow them to advance up the academic success ladder. In fact, I set out to accomplish two SDGs: to minimize inequality and poverty, and I am confident that these objectives can be accomplished by education,” he said.

Emmanuel, however, is looking beyond being a team lead on campus. He aspires to be part of the Ashesi Student Council and the Ashesi MasterCard Leadership body. He hopes to build his leadership qualities in these roles.

He further indicated that the “future looks promising” for him as he aspires to become a Financial Analyst and Business Consultant after graduating from Ashesi University.
