Stretch marks occur in both men and women and usually appear on the thighs, stomach, upper arms and buttocks. While they don’t cause any harmful health risks, some can be unsightly. We’ve gathered a number of activities and things we do that cause stretch marks to occur without us knowing it.
1. High cortisone levels
The human body naturally produces cortisone from the adrenal glands. Cortisol, the stress hormone is converted into cortisone. The higher the amount of stress, the higher your cortisone levels which results in the formation of more stretch marks.
2. Sudden weight gain
If you suddenly gain weight, you’ll see stretch marks where the skin has been stretched to allow for the weight gain.
Depending of the end goal of the exercise you do, exercising regularly helps build your muscles. Since the muscles are expanding, the skin around them get stretched which sometimes results in stretch marks.
4. Corticosteroid Creams
This type of medication is used to treat a variety of skin conditions like insect bites, eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rashes among others. Prolonged use of this can cause stretch marks.
