No matter how much you think you’re itching to get away from home, when you’re finally in the university one of the feelings that’s going to come up is homesickness. Even if were excited about getting to university, that homesickness creeps up on all of us at one point or another. Here are some tips to help you deal with it.
Go Out And Keep Yourself Busy
Constantly staying in your room 24/7 with the exception of classes and orientations can feed those feelings of being homesick. It will help instead to make plans with your roommates or course mates and explore places on your campus. Get out of your room and get your mind off those feelings of being homesick.
Keep In Touch With Home
Some of us feel homesick and still don’t call or text home. That shouldn’t be the case. when you miss home, call. Have a conversation or two and it might help ease those feelings. However, you don’t want to be the person that’s always calling home either.
Don’t Compare Yourself To Other People
One of the things that can make you feel even more homesick is when you feel like everyone around you is having the best college experience and you’re not up to things that seem as interesting. Social media can worsen these feelings, but it’s important to remember that social media only shows snapshots of people’s lives and that there’s nothing wrong with not partying every night.
