Ghana, as we know, is not fully appreciative of the concept of podcasting, which is the act of recording just about anything and growing a good listening audience in the process.
Many people have the dream of dappling into the podcast space, others may not be fully into the idea of listening to podcasts, but for Ernest Aboagye-Mensah, a Level 200 Human Resource Management student of Pentecost University, no barrier can stand in his way, especially when it comes to making his voice heard, appreciated and recognized.
On May 1, 2021, Ernest Aboagye-Mensah launched his podcast, dubbed earnestly speaking with e, and after releasing episode 1, it is slowly but surely making waves in Ghana and even wider portions of the world. Some say it’s his soothing tone of voice that keeps listeners coming in and begging for more, others say it’s the complete vibe of the podcast: a comforting, welcoming experience, but for Ernest, it is his mission to create a space where just about anything can be discussed, without fear or judgement, and that is his aim with earnestly speaking.
Explaining what sparked his interests in podcasting and why he decided to create his, Ernest said: “For quite a long time, podcasts have been a fortress of solitude for me. I listen to them even till this very day when I’m doing just about anything. It kind of makes you feel like you’re not alone, at least in my case, because having someone to listen to and to spark some interest, be it great or small, is truly the driving force for me creating earnestly speaking. It was almost instinctual, like, in my head, I was thinking, ‘This is a no-brainer. I love this so much, so I definitely have to create my own little world with this.”
For Ernest, he sees his podcast as a community where people with different ideologies can come together to discuss interesting topics devoid of discrimination.
“It’s so cool to me to see people become die-hard supporters of a football club, or a musician or author, and that is the exact same mentality I have with my podcast: To have a space, big or small, where everyone can come together, differences aside, and just exist harmoniously. No discrimination on certain topics, no walking on eggshells about some matters. Just positivity, love and co-existence. That is, and will always be, the mission statement behind my podcast,” he said.
Being able to create something he loves, Ernest indicated how grateful he is to God and his team of creatives.
“Well, I of course have to thank God for giving me the ability and the opportunity to create such a masterpiece. I speak from my heart, and that’s what resonates with my listeners, and my voice is my tool, so I’m grateful to God for blessing me with a decent set of pipes, but in all honesty, aside from God, my podcast would not even exist without my family at Creatives Connect.
“I don’t think I can describe how hands-on it is to launch a podcast and have it become such a success and go so far in its early stages, but the editors, videographers and the entire team are truly a God-sent. I could not be more grateful and thankful for my team and my God for making this blow as much as it has!” he said
With regards to the growth and future of his podcast and brand, Ernest said: “I definitely want this to go farther than how it has. Internationally, to be specific, because I see myself going so high with this to make others feel confident in listening to or even owning podcasts since it’s not something Ghanaians are so into.”
“For me, however, I definitely want to go international myself, with this podcast and with my job of writing. A few huge contracts here, a couple of huge brands recognizing me and my work, some awards in the mix as well. Yeah, that’s the dream: to be an international force in podcasting and in all other occupational aspects of my life,” he added.
Ernest, however, promised his listeners of more fun and exciting topics that will resonate with their daily lives.
“My lovely listeners can expect the absolute best, that’s for sure! So many laughs, so many facts. A good time is in store for all my listeners, whom I love and adore beyond words. For people yet to listen, I say be open-minded, and brace yourselves for the best. Fridays are for sure going to be everybody’s new favourite day of the week because of earnestly speaking, and I cannot wait to see how many lives I touch and how much of an impact my podcast and myself make on everybody around the world!”
