This weekend, rap icon DMX has been going through his last journey here on earth.
A memorial service has been held in his honour and his family chose to call it “A Celebration of Life.”
For the global superstar that DMX was, his funeral was nothing short of a spectacle befitting his status and reflecting on the incredible life he lived in his 50 years on earth.
DMX’s funeral was watched by millions of people both on TV and online and it produced some heartwarming and touching moments.
If you haven’t seen it, here are 5 touching moments from DMX’s Celebration of Life;
The Convoy Of Bikes
DMX was a staunch member of the Ruff Ryders. Ruff Ryders is a hip hop collective and record label that began as the managers of DMX and The LOX.
However, with DMX’s chart success, the management company started its own label. More than a decade ago, Ruff Ryders was relaunched and it was called Ruff Ryders Indy.
Ruff Ryders Indy then branched out into other areas, including Ruff Ryders Lifestyles (a sports bike organization), Ruff Ryders Films, Powerhouse Recording Studios, NatPro, a promotional company, and the Ruff Ryders to the Rescue Foundation.
Yesterday, the members of Ruff Ryders Lifestyles showed up to funeral of DMX, the Ruff Ryder’s royal.
BMX’s Monster Truck Hess
Going out just as he lived, the casket carrying DMX’s body was transported on a Monster Truck.
The black big-wheel truck had the words “Long Live DMX” painted on the side and carried his shiny red casket.
The tyres of the truck are as big as those used by heavy articulated trucks or big farm tractors.
This type of a ‘hess’ only makes sense for the larger than life rap icon, DMX.
Kanye West’s Sunday Service Choir
Kanye West’s Sunday Service Choir has won the hearts of many with their hip hop style Gospel music.
Their performances are electrifying and will definitely have you moving at least one part of your body to the rhythm of the song.
With Kanye and DMX enjoying a good relationship, his choir opened DMX’s memorial.
Kanye himself was in attendance.
The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree
DMX had 15 children and all of them mounted the stage to talk about their iconic amazing daddy.
Almost all of them rapped their tributes to their dad. However, it was 12-year-old Sonovah Junior who won the heart of the internet with her touching amazing version of her father’s hit song “Slippin”.
“My brothers and sisters, we all stand together, throw up the X, Daddy forever,” part of her line said in her now famous rap eulogy to her father.
Kanye West’s YEEZY and Balenciaga came together for a special commemorative shirt.
Kanye’s brand asked Balenciaga to design a T-shirt in tribute to DMX.
The T-Shirts are already being sold by Yeezy on a dedicated website.
One is going for $200 (GHS 1,152). You can buy it here.
All the net proceeds will go to DMX’s family.
The 50-year-old, whose real name was Earl Simmons, had been admitted to intensive care in New York on Friday 2 April and was placed on life support.
He died a week later after a “catastrophic cardiac arrest”.
