Today is April 20 and it is a very important day for those who live life on the roll.
The day has two purposes – it is a celebratory day and a day for civil disobedience as well.
Since 1971, April 20 has become an international day where people celebrate the use of cannabis for both medicinal and recreational purposes.
Some use the day to advocate for the legalization and the safe use of the product.
People pull off various civil disobedience acts of gathering to smoke the banned substance.
In Ghana, it is illegal to consume cannabis and marijuana.
On March 20, 2020, the government passed the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2019.
This made the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes legal.
Pharmaceutical companies have been allowed to use cannabis in the products, however, ordinary citizens cannot use the substance for recreational purposes or home-based medicinal remedies.
However, that didn’t stop Ghanaians from partying it up online to celebrate 420 day.
Many Ghanaians are still pushing for legalization of cannabis so that it can be freely cultivated and used by everybody. A number of celebrities have already made their advocacy public, including musicians Samini and Kwaw Kese.
