Ugo Ugochukwu, a 13-year-old Kart racing champion, has signed a long-term deal with British motor racing team, McLaren.

The deal gives McLaren Racing an option on Ugo’s services in the future while supporting his development through the junior ranks of motorsport.

McLaren has a history of signing and supporting the development of future Formula 1 stars from a young age.

Its most famous junior signing was Britain’s Lewis Hamilton, who is now a seven-time world champion. Hamilton was the same age as Ugochukwu when he first signed a deal with McLaren. Hamilton went on to enter F1 in 2007 with the Woking team and won his first world F1 world title with them in 2008 aged 23.

Here are six facts about Ugo Ugochukwu:

1. He was born in New York on April 23, 2007.

2. He is the son of Italian fashion designer Luca Orlandi and Nigerian supermodel Oluchi Onweagba.

3. He started racing karts in New York at the age of 6.

4. He won a series of karting titles in the U.S.A. between 2014 and 2018. The titles are the 2014 Micro Rok Championship, the 2017 International Open X30 Mini Championship and the 2018 Challenge of the Americas Rok Junior Championship.

5. He won the 2020 FIA OKJ European karting championship.

6. He will, this year, compete in the OK Senior class of karting in Europe.
