Today, the CEO and co-founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey announced that Twitter is establishing its Africa Head Office in Ghana.
This will be the first official Twitter office on the continent.
“Today, in line with our growth strategy, we’re excited to announce that we are now actively building a team in Ghana,” Twitter said in a blog post.
“To truly serve the public conversation, we must be more immersed in the rich and vibrant communities that drive the conversations taking place every day across the African continent,” it added.
According to Twitter, it chose Ghana to host its Africa HQ because the country is a champion for democracy, a supporter of free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet.
“Furthermore, Ghana’s recent appointment to host The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with our overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support our efforts to improve and tailor our service across Africa,” it added.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo, who had been instrumental in this decision by Twitter, also sent a welcome note to Twitter for choosing Ghana.
“These are exciting times to be in, and to do business in Ghana,” the President tweeted.
However, here is how this can directly impact young Ghanaians – jobs.
Twitter is already recruiting a team to kick start its Africa operations in Ghana.
It has advertised 12 vacancies which include Media Analysts, Data Specialist, Communications Manager, Curator, Staff Designer among others.
