10 DMX Lyrics That Will Make The Legend Live In Our Hearts Forever

American rapper DMX has reportedly passed away.

This unfortunate news comes days after he was hospitalised for drug overdose.

While in critical condition, DMX was said to have had insufficient brain activity.

The passing of the 50-year-old rapper whose real name is Earl Simmons has hit fans hard.

Even when he was hospitalised, scores of his fans converged at the hospital in support of their icon.

Though DMX is no more, his fans will be comforted by replaying some of his old classics.

DMX was known for his very non PC hardline lyrics.

Here are 10 DMX lines and their songs that would certainly live in our hearts forever.

“I Miss You”

In a love letter to his Grand mother who has passed away, DMX reflected on the impact she had on his life and how he misses her in the song titled “I Miss You.”

The lines in the song can be said about him now that he has passed away.

What stays with us in “I Miss You” was when he said the following”

“When you died, I cried like a baby AHH!
I begged the Lord to take me UHHH
Cuz no-one else could give me what u gave me
And like when everything comes to an end
I pray that I go to heaven to see you again.”

“Lord Give Me A Sign”

In “Lord Give Me A Sign” DMX holds a conversation with God. The prayer to God was about relaying to God his problems and asking for a sign from God to live his potential.

He said “Life or death, live or die (Uh)
I will never live a lie (Uh)
I’m gon’ get because I try (What!)
I won’t quit until I die (What!)
I’m gon’ make it, wrong or right (Yeah!)
And make it through the darkest time (Yeah!)
And when the morning comes, you’ll see
That all I have is God in me (Lord give me a sign!)”

“What They Really Want”

DMX the player comes alive in “What They Really Want”. This song highlighted the various demands he was receiving from women at the height of success. It was in this song that he gave us one of the most famous roll calls in history.

Here it goes:

“There was Brenda, LaTisha, Linda, Felicia (okay)
Dawn, LeShaun, Ines, and Alicia (ooh)
Teresa, Monica, Sharron, Nicki (uh-huh)
Lisa, Veronica, Karen, Vicky (damn)
Cookies, well I met her in a ice cream parlor (aight?)
Tonya, Diane, Lori and Carla (okay)
Marina (uh) Selena (uh) Katrina (uh) Sabrina (uh)
About three Kim’s (what?) LaToya, and Tina (WHOO!)
Shelley, Bridget, Cavi, Rasheeda (uh-huh)
Kelly, Nicole, Angel, Juanita (damn!)
Stacy, Tracie, Rohna, and Ronda (what?)
Donna, Ulanda (what?) Tawana, and Wanda (what?)
Were all treated fairly but yet and still”

“What’s My Name”

DMX goes in hard with this track making sure that his territory is not threatened while emphasizing that he is undefeated.

You can frame these lines:

“If you want it we got it
Come and get it nigga we wit it
All you gotta do is set it baby
Ryde or die
What you niggas want, uh, uh
What you niggas want”

“We Right Here”

DMX’s hook on his song “We Right Here” is for everybody who wants people to know that they still got it and not giving them an inch to walk over them.

Remember these lines….

“Bring it! What?
We right here
We’re not goin’ anywhere
We right here
This is ours and we don’t share
We right here
Bring your crew ‘cuz we don’t care”

“Who We Be”

DMX calls out phony, jealous and fake people in his life, giving us some lines all of us can relate to. He was nominated for a GRAMMY for this record and rightly so.

He said “The friends, the foes, the Benz, the hoes (what?!)
The studios, the shows, comes, and it goes (c’mon!)
The jealousy, the envy, the phony, the friendly (uh-huh!)
The one that gave ’em the slugs, the one that put ’em in me
(whoo!) The snakes, the grass, too long, to see (uhh, uhh!)”

“We In Here”

DMX gives various quotes in “We in here” but none come close to this:

“I’ll pull up on ya block and turn your white teeth burgundy
Let’s see some surgery”

DMX delivers an anthem of what it means to survive in his hit song “Slippin”.

In the very into to the song, DMX says “See, to live is to suffer but to survive
Well, that’s to find meaning in the suffering”.

As part of the Hip Hop community, DMX made sure to release songs that spoke to the community and its fans. “Stop Being Greedy” is a song about being content with what they had as they grind every day.

In this song, he said “Many questions, no answers, stress
Try to hold my head and remember that I’m blessed”.

“Party UP”

In one of his most successful songs, DMX composes the hook that is arguably his signature hook. Almost everybody can sing those lines…

“Y’all gon’ make me lose my mind
Up in here, up in here
Y’all gon’ make me go all out
Up in here, up in here Y’all gon’ make me act a fool
Up in here, up in here
Y’all gon’ make me lose my cool
Up in here, up in here”

The man is gone but his works lives on in us and with us.

Thank you DMX for your contribution to music.

Though DMX never won a GRAMMY, he was nominated three times.

In 2001 he received two nominations – Best Rap album for “… And Then There Was X” and Best Rap Solo Performance for “Part Up”.

In 2002 he was nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance again for his song “Who We Be.”

RIP, King!
