It had always been Oluwabunmi Amosu’s dream to study abroad. After graduating with first-class honours in Business Administration and Management from Lagos State University, she applied for many scholarships but she was rejected.
Amosu did not give up on her dream and kept on applying for scholarships while hoping and praying for a miracle.
In March 2020, she received great news when she was awarded two fully-funded scholarships — Commonwealth Shared Scholarship and Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.
Amosu, however, opted for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to study MA, Education and Society at McGill University in Canada. She was among the two Nigerians who were selected for the scholarship.
Oluwabunmi Amosu shared her story on LinkedIn to inspire others who are also hoping to receive scholarships to study abroad.
Read her story below:
“One year ago, the week that changed my life forever. It was a back to back blessings on 26th and 28th. I experienced God’s grace. How time flies!”
“Studying abroad has always been my dream from secondary school even though I don’t know how to sponsor myself, I kept this dream alive. I applied to many Scholarships in 2019 but I was rejected even with a first-class grade. I saved my NYSC allowance to write GRE but I didn’t do well. I remember how I felt on the bus that day. I felt dejected, stressed, and that my sacrifice didn’t pay off. That year also came with a lot of rejections from at least 25 Scholarship applications. I cried all night, fasted and prayed but nothing changed.
“I became anxious and didn’t know what to expect in the coming year. I submitted few applications in 2020 but it was still very difficult. I had to travel most of the time to my Alma Mata for reference letters. Trust me it was not convenient.
“In march 2020, I received the greatest news with two fully funded scholarships.
“I opted for McGill University and I feel blessed to be among the two Nigerians selected for this prestigious scholarship.”
