#StopMoneyRitualsOnTV: Three Ruined Lives In Kasoa And The Problem Of Money Rituals

Two teenagers, 15 and 17 years old, are currently in police custody after allegedly murdering a 10-year-old.

The boys have been remanded in prison after a judge remanded them into police custody on their first day in court.

They have been accused of murdering Ishmael Mensah for a money-making ritual.

The news of Felix Nyarko, 15, and Nicholas Kini, 17’s crime has brought up the issue of the seeming normalisation of performing rituals to get rich.

Besides Mallams and fetish priest going on social media with the promise of helping people get rich through blood money, there is currently a proliferation of ritual offers on television.

They host long hours of programmes and their activities are largely unregulated.

This has made many to call on authorities to stop fetish priests from making such adverts on television.

The hashtag #StopMoneyRitualsOnTV has been trending all day.

Others who want to interrogate the issue further have drawn similarities to pastors who keeping egging on their followers to seek prosperity and wealth and give those followers all kinds of so-called prophetic directions for them to execute in order to unlock their blessings.

It perhaps also exposes a poverty-ridden society that turns to religion as a last resort to make ends meet.

For now though as the rest of the country finds a new topic to debate on, a 10-year-old boy has lost his life which has devastated his family.

The life of two other teenagers will be forever ruined by the events of last weekend.

Felix and Nicholas have been asked by the court to reappear on April 20, 2021, as the police continue to carry investigations into the gruesome murder.
