Myth: Shampoo Is Not A Wash Day Essential

It will shock you that not a lot of people wash their hair with shampoo. They rely on cowash most of the time while using a LOT of DIY products into their hair. At the end of the day, they complain that even though they use a lot of butters and oils in their hair, their hair isn’t “moisturized”.

Washing your hair is more important than those butters and oils you’re using because, that moisture you say you need in your hair can only be gotten when you wash your hair.

Apart from the moisture issue, it’s important to cleanse your scalp and wash off all the oils, debris and dead skin from your scalp without stripping its natural, protective, oily substance, called sebum. Too much sebum can cause more dirt to get attached to the hair. Too little sebum and your afro hair will be dry.

You don’t need to wash your hair every day. You can do it every 7-10 days because by then, the moisture gotten from your washday would have evaporated.

As much as possible, try to wash your hair weekly so you get the needed moisture for your hair.
