Itchy and flaking scalps are telltale signs that you have dandruff. Dandruff becomes worrying especially when you get your hair done and in less than 2 weeks, it starts appearing on your scalp and you just don’t know what to do because it’s so obvious.
Dandruff is a scalp condition which is caused by a fungus, Malassezia, which feeds on sebum (an oily, waxy substance produced by your body’s sebaceous glands. It coats, moisturizes, and protects your skin). Here are some affordable remedies you can try.
1. Tea Tree Oil
It has been proven to have powerful anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties, which may help alleviate symptoms of dandruff. Add a drop or 2 to your shampoo when washing your hair and let it do it’s magic. (Source: healthline.com)
2. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera also has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and mildly exfoliates the skin. Directly extract the insides of the aloe plant and massage it into your scalp. Wash it off with a medicated anti-dandruff or mild shampoo.
3. Neem juice
Neem is one of the major ingredients in most shampoos. Boil water and add a lot of leaves into it. Add 1 tablespoon of honey in it and leave it overnight. Strain the water the next morning. Make a paste of the Neem leaves and apply it on your scalp and hair. Wait for 30 minutes and then rinse off using the strained Neem water. (Source: India.com)
4. Add Apple Cider Vinegar to Your Routine
The acidity of the vinegar is believed to help stimulate the shedding of dead skin cells on the scalp. It also balances the pH of the skin to reduce the growth of fungus and thus fight dandruff.
Please note that oiling your scalp incessantly will not get rid of the dandruff. Applying oil will lead to more dandruff as oil is like food for Malazzesia which leads to dandruff.
