This year, the name Ramatu was first mentioned by the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin during the swearing-in of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for their second term.
She was introduced as the wife of the Vice President – he quickly later corrected it by introducing Samira Bawumia instead.
It caused a lot of people to ask, Who is Ramatu?
Fast forward to the State of the Nation Address and some members of Parliament started shouting ‘Ramatu’ ‘Ramatu’ when Dr Bawumia and Samira were introduced.
A lot of people online started circulating photos of a woman believed to be Ramatu and allegedly another wife of the Vice President.
Bawumia’s Islamic faith permits him to marry four women if he chooses and can provide for them.
However, a statement issued by the Vice President’s office states that he has only one wife, “his dear Samira Bawumia and they have been married for 17 years.”
However, folks are not ready to let go off this juicy gossip.
Ghanaians love a good gossip.
