Ruth Carter is one of Hollywood’s top costume designers. Her recent work was on one of 2021’s most-anticipated movies – Coming 2 America. She also worked on Marvel’s Black Panther and other top Hollywood movies.

1. She is an Oscar winning costume designer
Ruth is the first African-American to win the Academy Award for Best Costume Design. She won this award for her work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Panther. Before that, she was nominated thrice in that category.
2. She is the first Black costume designer to have a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame
On February 25, 2021, Ruth Carter was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Face, making her the first Black costume designer and second costume designer, after Edith Head, to have a star.
3. She’s dressed top Hollywood stars
Ruth has dressed a lot of popular Hollywood actors/actresses including, Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, Angela Bassett, among others.
4. She’s also worked with top Hollywood film directors
Ruth Carter has worked with renowned Hollywood film directors like Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg, John Singleton, Ava DuVernay and Ryan Coogler.
5. She has over 40 films to her credit
Ruth Carter has worked on over 40 films. She is also known for her work on movies like Malcolm X (1992), Amistad (1997), What’s Love Got to Do with It (1993), Serenity (2005), Four Brothers (2005), The Butler (2013) and Selma (2014).
