Abena Serwaa Mankosa, a teacher at Aninkroma D/A Primary school in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, has received praise from Ghanaians on social media for an amazing thing she does for her pupils.
Abena, a class one teacher, has taken it upon herself to provide free lunch for her pupils, regardless of her limited resources.
According to her, she has been able to sustain this benevolent act through the help of some Facebook friends and relatives, to whom she is very grateful.
“I’m able to put smiles on the face of these kids with the help of my Facebook friends and relatives,” she wrote on Facebook.
Most of what she supplies are supplements to the food provided by the government as part of the school feeding program.
She has, however, urged the government to do more with regards to the wellbeing of pupils in rural areas.
“Imagine if the government take good care of these schools, will a Ghanaian kid pay $1000 for tuition in a private school?” she questioned.
Aside from the food she provides, Abena also solicits funds and support on social media to provide other school needs such as bags and uniforms for her pupils.
Abena Mankosa is an alumnus of the University of Education, Winneba and St Monica’s College of Education, Mampong.
