5 Reasons Why Your ‘Wash And Go’ Keep Failing

A “wash and go” is a method of styling your hair without any heat or manipulation—you just wash it, add your styling products, and let it do its thing. There are different reasons why your wash and go doesn’t give you the results you expect. Here are some of them.

1. You have product build up

You need to have clean scalp and hair before you do any style with your hair. To get the best results you need to be working on clean hair. Co-washing won’t get you there and neither will a gentle rinse or spritzing your hair with water. Remove the layers and layers of Shea butter and oils from your hair before you attempt a wash and go.

2. Your hair lacks moisture

There’s a reason why right after removing your protective style, your wash and goes lack definition. If you’ve kept braids or locs or other hairstyles which prevented you from washing your hair, your hair lacks moisture. Applying oils to your scalp will not replace the moisture your hair needs.

3. Technique

There are different techniques online on how to achieve the perfect wash and go but sometimes it’s the way you are doing it; that’s the problem. If you want to get more definition out of your wash and go’s, you can try either the shingling method or the raking method.

4. Your hair is damaged

Hair that is brittle, broken, or otherwise damaged will need extra care and would do better tucked away and protected; not with braids and the likes though because once again, if the hairstyle you have on doesn’t allow you to wash your hair it’s not really a protective style. You will need to put forth more effort to make sure that your hair is moisturized and that frizziness is kept in check in order for your wash n’ go to look its absolute best.

5. Styling products

Many styling gels contain certain alcohols that in turn may be drying your hair out. Other styling products have multiple chemicals present in them that may be doing your hair more harm than good.
