Move Your Head Left To Right As You Read

Moving your head from left to right as you read takes advantage of a reflex called the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). That’s hard to pronounce, but what it means is that you stop reading individual words and read phrases instead. This can double or even triple your reading speed.

Exercise Your Eyes Before Reading

Before you start reading, get your eyes active can make you even more effective. There’s a one minute exercise that you can do in order sharpen your peripheral vision. That is:

  • Focus on a point on a wall while keeping your head still,
  • Then extend your right hand in front of you and draw and infinity symbol, , with your finger.
  • Follow the symbol with your eyes.
  • Switch hands and then repeat.
