Just a few weeks after being available on Netflix, Lupin is now being projected to be streamed in 70 million households in its first 28 days. With that, the French series will become Netflix’s top original popular series, beating out hit English-language series The Queen’s Gambit (62 million) and Bridgerton (63 million respectively).
Starring Omar Sy, the series created by George Kay and François Uzan has now become the first French series to break into Netflix’s U.S. top 10 list. Sitting at number one in France, Lupin is at the top spot in Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sweden and many other countries.
Lupin is a five-part series set in Paris that chronicles the adventures of Assane Diop, a man who is inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin, a character created by Maurice LeBlanc. Diop follows in the footsteps of his gentleman thief and master of disguise inspiration to avenge his father that died after being accused of a crime he didn’t commit. With the popularity of Lupin, the original Leblanc novels have now seen a spike in popularity all over the world.
