Every year, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), the most recognized award scheme in Ghana organized by Charterhouse Production, seeks to celebrate and honour hardworking creatives in the Music industry including other African artists.
One of the highly contested categories is the Best New Artist category which highlights rising stars who seem ready to level up and achieve mainstream success. As the 22nd edition of the VGMA approaches, many Ghanaian Music lovers are looking forward to knowing who takes over the baton from last year’s winner ‘Fameye’.
Popular Ghanaian Ace presenter Klenem Anatsui, also known as ‘Heavy Dee’ who is now the host of ‘Keteke’ show on Max Fm, with his many experiences in the Music industry has quickly settled on who deserves to win the Best New artist.
According to ‘Heavy Dee’ the ‘XXL’ singer Gidochi, rightly deserves the award and it would be unfair to him not to be crowned the Best New artist. In his opinion, Gidochi is a very special artist with so much talent, humility, a very different sound, great
vocals and unique writing skills.
Earlier in 2020, Gidochi took a bold step amidst the coronavirus crisis to join the “Nescafe One Song” competition. He beat over 5000 contestants to win the award and has been featured in the Nescafe Music video. He went ahead to release a 7-track EP titled “Mixed Feelings” which has been rated one of the best music projects in recent times by most of the industry players including industry guru, Jay Foley. He also released a music video for his single “XXL” directed by Ghana’s Kobby Outta, and produced by Grammy-nominated and Burna Boy’s in-house producer Kel-P Vibes. His song “I Wish” is also on major playlists on Apple Music.
Heavy Dee believes that considering all these works, Gidochi qualifies to win the Best New artist in the upcoming 22nd edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. However the final decision on who deserves to win whatever is dependent on the organizers of the award show and music fans who would vote.
