There Are 8 Types Of Intelligence. It’s Not Just Book Smarts!

Most of the time, when we say intelligence, the word refers to people who are book smart. There are other legitimate types of intelligence though. That’s why the term “street smart” was coined in the first place. However, according to a neuropsychologist from Harvard University, Howard Gardner, there are actually 8 types of intelligence.

1. Logical/Mathematical Intelligence

People with this type of intelligence have very good problem-solving ability, and usually, they know the answer to a problem before they can even verbalize it. These people are good with computer problems and strategy games.

2. Linguistic Intelligence

People with this type of intelligence are good with language. They have interests like reading, talking, writing, learning languages and even playing word games.

3. Spatial Intelligence

People with this type of intelligence are good at thinking in 3 dimensions. They are good at solving problems in terms of drawing and painting, reading maps and understanding pictures.

4. Musical Intelligence

People with this type of intelligence have a natural ability to learn different sounds. It translates into an ability to sing, play instruments, compose songs and easily memorize songs and tunes.

5. Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence

It is the ability to use the whole body in the expression of ideas and feelings. People with this type of intelligence are good at dancing, acting, imitating gestures or expressions, playing sports, running, etc.

6. Intrapersonal Intelligence

This type of intelligence is present in people who have a good understanding of themselves. People with this type of intelligence are good at setting goals and achieving them, as well as understanding their own feelings, strengths and weaknesses.

7. Interpersonal Intelligence

People with this type of intelligence have an innate understanding of other interactions with other people. That means that they are good at working in teams, mediating conflicts and creating new relationships with people.

8. Naturalistic intelligence

The final type of intelligence is related to plants and animals. People with this type of intelligence enjoy doing activities such as camping, hiking, caring for animals, learning about nature, recycling and caring for the environment.
