Starting Next Month WhatsApp Will Share Your Personal Information With Facebook

9 out of 10 times that Facebook is trending in the news, it’s because of user privacy related reasons. This article is no different. Starting from next month, WhatsApp which is part of the triad of social media apps owned by Facebook will be making some changes to its privacy policy.

At first, that might not sound like something you would care about, but here’s what the new privacy policy means for you. Starting next month, if you want to continue using the messaging app, you have to be prepared to share your personal information with Facebook. That includes your name, your phone number, the phone numbers of your contacts, your profile pictures, status updates. In addition to all of that, you will also be sharing information about your device with Facebook including your IP address, your device model, operating system and some other information.

In Ghana, privacy concerns are usually not a deal-breaker when it comes to the apps that we use. However, this news still has to raise some concerns as you either agree to the terms or stop using the app. Is personalized marketing worth sharing your personal information?
