In this new year I’m an advocate for saving more. If you don’t need to go out, stay home. If wherever you’re going isn’t bringing you money or gigs, don’t move. If work meetings can be done via zoom, best believe I will be the person pushing that agenda. There are lands to be bought, houses to build and cars to buy. We need to enjoy life at the end of the day and if we don’t put in the work now, we won’t be able to do so.
I’ve figured out that one of the battles we have is always with food. If you allow it, food will make you go bankrupt and so I thought of 4 new year resolutions we should have with our kitchens to help save money.
1. There’s always rice at home
“There’s rice at home” simply means, whatever food you’re tempted to buy for whatever reason, there’s something already at home for you to eat without needing you to use money and it doesn’t necessarily have to be rice. Once you have this mantra, you learn self discipline and save money.
2. Cook in bulk
This will save your time and money. Dedicate one weekend for cooking pots of assorted stews and soups and you’ll be sorted for weeks. No need to be buying food everyday.
3. Finish whatever is in your fridge before they go bad
Remember, money cannot go to waste. Whatever time and effort you put into getting raw food products and cooking them cannot be in vain. Finish everything before they go bad and before you prepare even more food.
4. Send food to work
For some reason some people feel embarrassed about this option but it will save you a lot of cost especially when you work in an area where the least amount of money you’ll spend on food is GHS 10. Sending food to work will help you save a lot of money at the end of the day.
What other resolutions should we make concerning the kitchen?
