Anas Aremeyaw Anas Calls For Protection Of Journalists

Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Ghanaian undercover journalist

Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has joined the calls of many journalists for adequate state protection as their lives are being threatened.

Anas’ colleague, Ahmed Suale was murdered in cold blood in 2019 – it is believed he was murdered because of his work as an investigative journalist.

“The murder of Ahmed Suale is still fresh on the minds of all journalists and sympathizers in this country,” Anas’ statement said.

He said he stands in solidarity with media colleagues in demanding protection and justice for those who have “either been threatened with death or violence and/or intimidation.”

“Anonymous and open threats when not death with breed impunity in our society,” he added.

His call comes as a number of journalists including Manesseh Azure Awuni have claimed they have received death threats due to their journalism work.

Anas asked the government to condemn those making threats against journalists and tasked the security agencies to investigate the claims of death threats.

As an investigative journalist, Anas does his work undercover assuming different personalities.

However, even him have come under attack several times for his pieces.
