FIFA Cancels U-20 And U-17 World Cup Tournaments

FIFA has cancelled the U-20 and U-17 World Cup tournaments which were scheduled to be held in Indonesia and Peru, respectively, in 2021.

The tournaments were cancelled due to COVID-19 and have been postponed until 2023.

World football’s governing body disclosed this in a statement on its website.

“As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided to cancel the 2021 editions of the men’s FIFA U-20 World Cup™ and FIFA U-17 World Cup™, and to appoint Indonesia and Peru respectively, who were due to host the tournaments in 2021, as the hosts of the 2023 editions,” the statement read.

Other football competitions including the Euro 2020, AFCON 2021 and Copa America have also been postponed due to COVID-19.
