Lionel Messi on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, broke Pele’s longtime record of goals for one club.
The 33-year-old scored his 644th goal for Barcelona in the La Liga against Real Valladolid to surpass Pele’s 643 goals for Santos FC.
To honour his achievement, beer company Budweiser created a custom bottle for all 644 goals Messi scored and sent them to all the 160 goalkeepers he scored against “to toast their part in making history.”
Messi has established himself as one of the greatest footballers of all-time since he joined Barcelona at age 13 and made his competitive debut at 17 in 2004.
He has gone on to win 10 La Liga titles with Barcelona, as well as six Copa del Rey titles and four Champions League trophies.
On an individual level, Messi has won the Ballon d’Or six times, most recently in 2019, the most any player has ever won the award.
