South Africa Has Recorded Another Coronvirus Variant That Is More Severe In Young Patients

The Minister of Health in South Africa, Dr Zwelini Mkhize, has announced that the country has recorded another variance of Coronavirus that is driving the new surge in cases in the country.

According to the Minister, the country’s health experts noticed that a particular variant has increasingly dominated the findings of the samples collected in the past two months.

They also said the cases they are recording indicate that a larger proportion of younger patients with no co-morbidities are presenting with critical illness.

This suggests that the new variance presents more severe infections in young people who are healthy with no underlining illness.

“However, it is important to reiterate that while this mutation is a cause for concern, there is no reason to panic,” the minister said.

“We cannot go through what we went through in the early days of the AIDS pandemic when mothers and grandmothers were burying their children- this is the most heartbreaking phenomenon. The youth is urged to take care and find alternative ways of having safe fun this festive season,” the minister added.

Stay safe out there, guys.
