A couple of days ago, we shared a story from Vogue that talked about Ghanaian fashion icon, Virgil Abloh, teaming up with Daily Paper to fund the construction of Accra’s first-ever skating park.
The Freedom Skate Park will be sustainably made of recycled and local materials and offer lush and free-to-the-public green space right in the middle of the city.
The construction and design are being handled by Wonders Around the World, an international organization dedicated to making skateboarding accessible worldwide, and local architects, Limbo Accra.
There will be a cafe with Wi-fi, bathrooms, and a store that will not only sell serious equipment, but also offer private lessons to newbies, and employ local kids.
Virgil and his design studio Alaska Alaska have offered to craft the brand identity of the skate ramp, including the park’s logo, the design of the skate house, and furniture in collaboration with Limbo Accra.
In addition, Off-White, which is founded by Virgil and Daily Paper also committed to releasing a series of exclusive capsule collections to benefit the project.
Now, that capsule collection is ready and the pop up shop is opened for business.
The pop-up shop which is located inside the Mhoseenu Studios, Labone has products from Off-White, Daily Paper, Free The Youth and others.
The pop-up shop will stay opened from now till January 4.
Make sure you stop by for your legit Off-White and support the Freedom Skate Park too.
